You Asked… We Listened!

We’ve received great suggestions from PassIt users for ways to improve our online study guides. To help get your long weekend studying off to a great start, all PassIt Study Guides have been updated with some handy new features.

Keyboard Shortcuts
For simple mouse-free navigation of questions, the MCQs and Rapid Recalls can now be answered using several handy keyboard shortcuts.

Graph Your Progress
The Results/Settings section has been updated to include a progress chart for easy visual tracking of MCQ results.

View Additional Feedback
Sometimes, you want to see why an option is incorrect even though you know the correct option. In study mode, you are now able to choose one additional option after your correct choice to better understand why that alternate option was incorrect.

Choose A Chapter Combo
In study mode, you can now select multiple chapters to study in combination; e.g., Chapters 7, 8 and 9 or Chapters 1, 3 and 5. This is ideal when tackling tough to grasp chapters with questions covering those multiple chapters.

Question By Question Review
In addition to the new keyboard shortcuts for easy navigation, this section now includes the ability to report a problem, go to a specific question and view only the questions answered incorrectly.

We’re always looking for better ways to help students study. If you have a suggestion, let us know. Happy Canada Day!

Terms That Often Cause Problems for REPC (Course 1) Students

•January 29, 2010 • 2 Comments

Just because the glossary is at the back of the text book, don’t gloss over it when studying. Here are examples of common terms that students have trouble with in Real Estate as a Professional Career (Course 1):

  • Broker and Principal
  • Mortgagee and Mortgagor
  • REALTOR® and Registrant
  • Agency and Representation
  • Mean, Median and Mode
  • Market Price and Market Value
  • Rentable Area and Useable Area
  • Nominal and Effective Rate
  • Direct Capitalization and Yield Capitalization

Crossword puzzles can be a fun way to help sort out these and other common terms when studying and preparing for the OREA examination. Originally created in ancient Egypt, word puzzles are just as engaging today as they were in ancient times. Crosswords are ideal for online study because they encourage active, not passive learning. A lot of behind the scenes mental work takes place. PassIt crossword puzzles require participants to distinguish between terms, recall course specifics and select the right words. Puzzles stimulate logical reasoning and the application of deductive skills when arriving at correct answers—important skills for all adult learners—particularly those having to pass OREA exams.

Crossword puzzles help consolidate knowledge and move course information from working memory to permanent memory. The more mental activity and recall; the better the learning process. Not only that, they engage the reader. Newspapers discovered this years ago. For some, it’s really addictive. Feed your brain what it needs. Think of a crossword as a type of tutor for your exam. Check out PassIt crossword puzzles. Don’t lose valuable exam marks, when playing games may help you pass the OREA exam. Go to www.passit.ca.

Why an Online Tutor Best Suits Your Study Needs for OREA Exam Preparation

•January 21, 2010 • 3 Comments

We developed and are continuously refining our software to operate as a tutor. Essentially, a tutor is a personal instructor that gives you additional, special or remedial instruction. While most people think of a teacher or teaching assistant, the online world has brought new meaning to the word tutor. Online study and exam tutors are in vogue. Online tutors rarely quit, they are there when you need them, they await your command at 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, they don’t need a coffee break, and they don’t require a meeting room. Even a snow storm and bumper-to-bumper traffic doesn’t bog down the faithful online tutor. In a world filled with desktop computers and wi-fi connections, they are ready to help in your home office, hot spots such as your favourite coffee shop, or anywhere depending on the functionality of your personal computer.

Online tutors just make good sense in today’s fast-paced world.  People starting a real estate career have to juggle family, work and education at the same time. Our experience in online learning shows that the peak access times are late in the evening (including Saturday and Sunday nights). What ever happened to weekdays and 9 to 5? An online tutor is there at your command. Remember: Don’t practice on your exam; practice in advance with PassIt Online Study Guides—your 24/7 online tutor. We welcome your comments and suggestions to make our online tutor even more powerful. As always, good success in your OREA examinations.
